On Saturday, 6 November at noon, join us for a behind-the-scenes tour of Griffin Art Projects in North Vancouver. The visit includes a tour of the exhibition Teeth, Loan and Trust Company, Consolidated: The Trylowsky Collection with guest curator Patrik Andersson, a discussion with Griffin staff about the Artist Residency Program and a tour of the studio spaces. Emerge is a series of talks, workshops and behind-the-scenes tours dedicated to introducing visual art and art history students to the Vancouver art scene, with an emphasis on professional development. Each year, Emerge focuses around a key theme or set of ideas to guide discussions and events. The guiding themes of the 2021/22 academic year are Art, Community and Social Change. Emerge is organized by the Belkin, the Art History Students’ Association, the Visual Art Students’ Association and the Department of Art History, Visual Art and Theory at UBC. [more]On November 6, 2020, Emerge will visit Or Gallery for a virtual behind-the-scenes tour. Laurie White, Assistant Curator at Or and alumna of the CCST program at UBC, will lead the tour, focusing on how artist-run centres function as spaces for critical research and interdisciplinary practice, new methods of curating and community-based projects.
[more]On October 2, Emerge invites you to join a virtual studio visit with Tania Willard (Secwépemc Nation). During this studio visit, Willard will give an introduction to her art and practice, particularly focusing on her work in the exhibition Soundings: An Exhibition in Five Parts. The studio visit will be followed by a short Q&A.
