Emerge is a series of artists’ talks, professional workshops and behind-the-scenes tours organized by the Belkin Art Gallery, the UBC Visual Art Students’ Association (VASA), the UBC Art History Students Association (AHSA), the UBC Undergraduate Journal of Art History and the Department of Art History, Visual Art and Theory at UBC (AHVA). Tour and discussions about the history of a civic, community-based art gallery, developing new approaches and new audiences for contemporary art and career advice with UBC Curatorial Studies alumni Shaun Dacey, Director and Paula Booker, Assistant Curator.

Christine D’Onofrio, an alumna of the UBC Masters of Fine Arts program and now a practising artist and faculty at UBC, presented and discussed a number of her works and approaches to working on gender, identity and community-based projects.

Tour and discussion about the history of Vancouver’s oldest existing artist-run centre, developing new approaches to curating and working with contemporary artists, including career advice with Curator of Media Arts and UBC Curatorial Studies alumna Allison Collins.

Led by James Albers (VASA) and Bojana Bozin (UBC Art History Students Association), a preparatory workshop for the Belkin’s upcoming Wikipedia Edit-a-thon.
Workshop: Art+Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-thon
9 March 2019, 12 pm
Part of the annual Art+Feminism international campaign to correct the lack of information about female and non-binary artists, the histories of gender and activists represented on Wikipedia. Led by Christine D’Onofrio, Sara Ellis (Art Librarian, Music, Art & Architecture Library, UBC), Allison Collins, (Curator Media, Western Front) and Simranpreet Anand (Engagement Facilitator, Surrey Art Gallery and AHVA alumna). Forty editors joined at the Belkin and online, creating 18 new articles and editing 85 articles, to contribute a total of 43,800 words.
