2017/18

Emerge 2017/18

Emerge is a series of artists’ talks, professional workshops and behind-the-scenes tours organized by the Belkin Art Gallery, the UBC Visual Art Students’ Association (VASA), the UBC Art History Students Association (AHSA) and the Department of Art History, Visual Art and Theory at UBC (AHVA). Emerge 2017/18 was organized by VASA members Simranpreet Anand and Kelly Holmes, AHSA members Georgette Espina and Nora Van Trotsenburg and Deana Holmes, AHVA Undergraduate Advisor. For information about future Emerge events, contact Naomi Sawada, Manager of Public Programs at the Belkin Art Gallery, at naomi.sawada@ubc.ca or (604) 822-3640.

The 2017/18 events were:

Tour: Outdoor Art and Rodney Graham’s Millennial Time Machine
26 October 2017, 5:30-7:30 pm
Tour of the outdoor art on campus, including Rodney Graham’s Millennial Time Machine (2003), led by Naomi Sawada.

Tour: Behind the Scenes at the UBC Museum of Anthropology
21 October 2017, 6-8 pm
April Liu, Curator of Public Programs and Engagement gave a tour of the Museum of Anthropology including storage, conservation, design/work areas as well as discussing her own career path including how to develop relationships and seek opportunities in the arts and culture.

Workshop: How to Write an Exhibition Proposal
19 January 2017, 5 pm
A collaboration with Hatch Gallery, Naomi Sawada and independent writer Chris Gaudet gave a workshop on writing artist statements.
