Inauguration of The Shadow

by Esther Shalev-Gerz

Sunday, September 16, 2018 from 2 to 4 pm

Commissioned with support from the Burrard Arts Foundation, Rick Erickson and Donna Partridge, Brigitte and Henning Freybe, Phil Lind, the Morris and Helen Belkin Foundation and Rennie Collection, Esther Shalev-Gerz’s The Shadow embeds a ghostly silhouette of a first-growth fir tree across the expanse of University Commons Plaza outside of The Nest. Join us for the inauguration of this majestic public artwork with music composed by UBC School of Music PhD candidate Ramsey Sadaka and a tree tour by UBC Horticulture’s Egan Davis.

Born in Vilnius, Lithuania, she was raised in Jerusalem, Israel and has been residing in Paris since 1984, spending her summers on Cortes Island, BC.
